What is conjugate heat transfer?

  • Conjugate heat transfer is an approach used by a CFD solver which simultaneously deals with heat transfer in the solid (conduction) and the fluid (convection) including the interaction between them.
CFD solvers solve the fluid flow along with the energy equation for the fluid and the solid. Conjugate heat transfer by using CFD solvers directly solves the heat transfer between solid and fluid. Hence, there is no need to define convective heat transfer coefficient (h).
  • However, you can easily calculate the convective heat transfer coefficient which is key unknown in convective heat transfer by using the conjugate heat transfer approach performs in CFD software.
